What you need
- A domain bought from any registrar, and access to its DNS settings.
- A subdomain —
www.my-shop.comorshop.my-shop.com. A baremy-shop.comdoesn't work with CNAME: redirect it towwwin your registrar's settings.
How to connect
- Settings → Store and delivery → Custom domain — enter the address and click “Connect”. The status is “Awaiting check”.
- In your registrar's DNS settings, add the record shown on the card:
- Type —
CNAME; - Name — your subdomain, for example
www; - Value —
shops.poleso.com.
- Type —
- Click “Check”. After a DNS change it can take from a few minutes to a few hours — if the check fails, try again later.
Once the domain works, the card shows “Domain is live” and an “Open” button.
What changes
Until the check passes — nothing: the storefront works at the old address.
After the check:
- the storefront opens on your domain;
- the old address
poleso.com/your-storeredirects to your domain; - cart links, returns from payment and bot messages lead straight to your domain;
- search engines show your domain.
Buyers' carts are tied to the address. Someone who started a cart at the old address will see it empty on the new one — once.
If the check fails
- “The domain does not respond” — the CNAME record isn't there yet or DNS hasn't updated. Check the record and wait.
- “The domain responds, but not with us” — the CNAME doesn't point to
shops.poleso.com. Fix the value. - “Use a subdomain” — you entered a bare
my-shop.com. Enterwww.my-shop.com. - “This domain is already connected to another store” — disconnect it there first.
Disconnecting
“Disconnect” on the domain card. The storefront returns to the old address, and links to your domain stop working.
Browsers that have already seen the redirect may keep sending people to your domain — so only disconnect the domain when you really don't need it any more.
If your plan goes down
A domain that's already connected keeps working. Connecting a new one or changing the address is only possible on Pro.
